― Edmond Rostand, Cyrano De Bergerac
Many a woman is often afraid of showing off her lips. It's awful, really. Should we be frightened of what comes out? Well, ok, sometimes yes. However, I love to talk, I think what I have to say is usually important, so I absolutely love a bold lip color to draw attention to the fabulosity that spews from my mouth. I believe that clean, amazingly soft sheets make my dreams sweeter; audacious, BOLD-acious (new word of mine, spread it like a wildfire!) lips can make my words more powerful. Now, red lips can be a little tricky. One cannot just slap red lipstick willy nilly. There's a slight art to the red.
First and foremost, ANYONE can wear this, with the right mindset. Red lips are for confidence, not timidness. Next, think about your skin tone. I read about a great way to figure this out that works for everyone: if your veins have a bluish or purple tint, you have cool toned skin. If they are greenish, you have warm toned skin.
Naturally, warmer ladies should go for warmer reds. Look for a red that has a little more orange or gold in it, like a good firetruck red or coral. Cool skin works well with more berry colors, a red with more of a plum or magenta tint, or burgundy. With either skin tone, you can find these colors in glosses, lipsticks, and lip liners; the coverage, definition and thickness of the color would simply depend on your preference and the style you're going for.
I've added some pictures of different reds that I use. I'm cool toned, so most of my lip products are cooler, but I do have a good warm one at the beginning.
Anyone who has ever been afraid of a red lip, go try some on right now, keeping your skin tone in mind. Let me know how it goes!
